KTEEA MEMBERSHIP SHARES A GREAT LOSS
Very sad news for our profession. Dr. Fred Ruda of Fort Hays State University was killed in a car accident on Easter Sunday near Dodge City, Kansas. Dr. Ruda was very active in our profession and will be missed by all who knew him. Fred's mother-in-law was also killed in the accident. The thoughts and prayers of all KTEEA members is with Fred's wife and children as they deal with the loss.
Dr. Ruda's funeral was Friday, 13 April, 2012 at 3pm at the Immaculate Heart Cathedral in Hays.

Nine students from Fort Hays State University and 13 students from Pittsburg State University competed in the International Technology and Engineering Educator's Association TECA competitions in Long Beach, CA, March 15th-17th, 2012. Each of the schools did well in the competitions. Over 14 universities were represented at the conference with over 200 students. Many of the schools did not even place in an event. This shows the tremendous amount of professionalism our students have. They earned the following awards.
Fort Hays State University
1st Place: Live Manufacturing
3rd Place: Teaching Lesson
4th Place: Communications
5th Place: Transportation
Pittsburg State University
1st Place: Problem Solving
2nd Place: Live Manufacturing
2nd Place: Robotics
3rd Place: Transportation
KTEEA would like to congratulate both schools for excellent representation from the state of Kansas. YOU DID AWESOME!!!
Additionally, Zach Pixler served as the National Vice-President of TECA for the past year. Zach also coordinated the national Live Communication challenge which was extremely well done. Thank you Zach for taking on a leadership role at that level. Well Done!

Throughout the 2011-12 academic year, we’re awarding one teacher per month with a $1,500 Educating Excellence award. Our fall award winners will be recognized through the end of the year, but there is still time to nominate an outstanding STEM teacher for a spring award. The nomination deadline for spring awards is January 1. In order to be eligible, a teacher must receive three separate nominations – one each from a colleague, a member of the community and a current student. Anyone can…
